BOSTON – Holding a 1-0 advantage at the half, the Boston University women's soccer team saw its lead slip in the second frame as Hofstra handed the Terriers a 2-1 defeat Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
Freshman
Anna Heilferty netted her first career goal in the 30th minute on a rocket from 25 yards out, but Hofstra answered with a pair of scores within the first 20 minutes of the second half to come out on top.
How it Happened
- Working in transition, Dorrie Varley-Barrett found Heilferty all alone on the left side. Heilferty took a touch and weaved towards the center of the field, where she fired a blast from outside the 20-yard box that motored past the fingertips of Hofstra's keeper to put the Terriers on the board.
- Hofstra delivered the equalizer in the 55th minute, cashing in on a feed that slipped through BU's defense and Hofstra slotted the ball it into the back left post.
- The Pride worked its way behind BU's backline again just 10 minutes later, corralling a deep feed at the corner of the six-yard box, and quickly fired a shot into the back of the net to take control of the scoreboard.
- BU pressed furiously in the waning minutes of the game, but was unable to get on the board again.
Game Notes
- The Pride registered the opening four shots during the opening 15 minutes, though BU was able to solve Hofstra's defense as the first half progressed, holding the advantage in shots, 9-7, at the break and went on to hold the overall lead, 13-10.
- Hofstra won its second straight game over the Terriers and came away victorious for the first time in the series history at Nickerson Field.
Up Next
- The Terriers will head to Tempe, Arizona next weekend for the Sun Devil Desert Classic with games slated against host Arizona State and Arizona.
