STORRS, Conn. – Taking on the top-ranked team in the country, the No. 20 Boston University field hockey team fell, 8-1, to UConn Sunday afternoon at the Sherman Complex.
Miya Denison scored the lone goal for the Terriers, tying the game up at 1-1 in the 13th minute, though the Huskies would score seven unanswered goals to run away with the victory.
How it Happened
- UConn opened the game with five shots over the first 10 minutes before getting on the board in the 11th minute.
- The Terriers responded just two minutes later, using a corner to record an equalizer.
- A corner play was set up for junior Ally Hammel, whose shot hit the post, but Denison pounced on the rebound and sent it in for her third goal of the season.
- The Huskies heated up the final 10 minutes of the first half, tallying four goals during the stretch to take a 5-1 command at the break.
- UConn's Charlotte Veitner posted a hat trick in the first half and tallied the final goal for the Huskies in the 65th minute. A two-time First Team All-American, Veitner finished with four goals and three assists on the day.
Game Notes
- BU is now 0-4 when playing the No. 1 team in the country.
- Kathleen Keegan and Millie Baker split time in net, as Keegan played the first frame and Baker came on for the second. Keegan finished with five saves and Miller recorded four.
- Along with Denison, Hammel and Kara Enoch got shots off in the first half, while Kiley Gallagher stroked the lone shot for the Terriers in the second half.
- UConn outshot BU, 23-4, and held a 9-2 advantage in corners.
