Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls at Albany, 3-0

ALBANY, N.Y. - Facing their second participant from the 2016 NCAA tournament in three games, the Boston University men's soccer team fell at Albany, 3-0, on Tuesday night.

The Great Danes (3-1-0) struck first in the 15th minute and added scores in the 35th and 50th minutes, respectively, to hand the Terriers (0-4-0) their fourth-straight loss

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Terriers dominated possession for most of the first half but were unable to convert on two corner kicks and put two shot attempts on goal.
  • In the 15th minute, BU was unable to clear a cross, allowing the Great Danes' Afonso Pinheiro to fire a hard shot attempt and Nico Solabarrieta to pounce on the rebound for the 1-0 lead following freshman William Bonnelyche's save.
  • Seeking an equalizer, BU kept the pressure on with two more corners and a free kick attempt that led to senior Adam Sheikali's header, but Albany withstood the multiple charges to maintain the one-goal advantage.
  • The Great Danes extended their lead at 34:14 when Pinheiro managed to send a low grounder through two BU defenders at the left post from the opposite corner.
  • BU earned a free kick just outside Albany's box 10 minutes later, but the Great Danes blocked junior Troy Phoa's hard attempt and saved another shot by freshman Elias Lampis.
  • Albany added one more score at 49:02 after Carlos Clark collected a centering lob from Daniel Krutzen and shot past Bonnelyche toward the left post.
GAME NOTES
  • BU finished with a 5-0 advantage in corners but only had one attempt in the second half.
  • BU finished tied with Albany in shots, 10-10, with 10 different Terriers registering an attempt.
  • Albany's Lucas Vallilo stopped attempts from Lampis, junior T.J. Butzke, Sheikali and senior Eric Mubang for his second shutout of the year, while Bonnelyche had three saves of his own.
  • With the victory, Albany snapped a five-game losing streak in the series and moved to 3-11-2 all-time against the Terriers with their first-ever home win over BU ... The Great Danes last won, 3-0, in 2008 at Nickerson Field when BU was still a member of the America East ... The Terriers that year rebounded from the loss and went on to claim the AE title and automatic NCAA berth.
NEXT UP: MASSACHUSETTS
  • The Terriers will remain on the road and visit UMass on Saturday at 1 p.m.
  • UMass leads the all-time series, 21-17-7, but BU is riding a six-game unbeaten streak with four straight wins, including back-to-back 2-1 decisions.
