BOSTON – Despite shooting 48.1 percent from the field, the Boston University men's basketball team fell to American, 69-58, on Wednesday night at Case Gym.

The Eagles (5-13, 2-5 PL) snapped the Terriers' (9-9, 5-2 PL) three-game win streak with the help of 15 steals and by hitting four more made 3-pointers and seven extra free throws. Both teams finished an identical 25-of-52 (.481) from the field.

TURNING POINT
  • Following freshman Javante McCoy's game-tying layup at 10:42, American had three different individuals hit a 3-pointer over the next two minutes to give the Eagles the lead for good.
  • BU cut the deficit to five at 6:52 (50-45) and 3:21 (54-49), but each time, Sam Iorio flushed a 3-pointer in response each time to keep the Terriers at bay.
  • Iorio added one more at 1:59 to extend American's lead to double digits for the first time in the contest.
THE SETUP
  • The teams went back and forth to start with Marvin Bragg giving American an early 14-12 lead at 11:45.
  • Senior Cedric Hankerson found sophomore Tyler Scanlon for a jumper and then hit his lone 3-pointer to spark a 12-2 run capped by senior Will Goff's trey at 7:26.
  • Unfortunately for BU, the offense fell out of sync, as the Terriers went 0-of-6 the rest of the half while committing six turnovers.
  • American charged back to enter the locker room ahead, 29-24, and started the second half with a layup to make it a 15-0 run.
  • James Washington kept the Eagles' lead at seven (41-34) with 13:45 remaining before the Terriers tried to mount a rally.
  • Senior Eric Johnson hit a 3-pointer and was followed by layups from sophomore Max Mahoney and McCoy, as BU tied the contest for the fifth and final time at 10:42.
