LEWISBURG, Pa. – Hours after sweeping Patriot League weekly honors, the Boston University men's basketball team used a pair of career efforts to stun defending conference champion and preseason favorite Bucknell, 84-79, on Tuesday night at Sojka Pavilion.

Will Goff torched the Bison (7-8, 1-1 PL) with a career-high five 3-pointers en route to a personal-best 17 points off the bench, while sophomore
Tyler Scanlon claimed his first-ever double-double with a career-high 10 rebounds and 14 points. Senior and reigning PL Player of the Week
Cedric Hankerson added 21 points and four assists, as the Terriers (6-7, 2-0 PL) snapped Bucknell's 15-game home win streak, which was the seventh longest active mark in the nation.
HOLDING ON WITH CLUTCH FREE THROWS
- After Scanlon found freshman Sukhmail Mathon for a layup at 2:56 for the 74-63 lead, the Bison responded with a 9-1 spurt capped by Zach Thomas' 3-pointer at 1:02.
- Facing a 75-72 deficit, the Bison never got any closer, as BU went 9-of-10 from the free throw line after entering the contest 13-of-21 (.619) during the final minute of games.
- Freshman Javante McCoy hit four of the free throws during the last 22 seconds in front of the hostile crowd.
THE SETUP
- The Terriers opened the game with the first of 12 first-half steals, leading to a fastbreak layup by freshman Walter Whyte.
- The Bison scored seven straight to grab its first lead (7-4) and later went on a 9-0 run capped by Bruce Moore's 3-pointer at 7:25 for a 20-17 advantage.
- BU responded with an 18-0 run over the next four minutes featuring four steals and four 3-pointers, including two from Goff.
- Bucknell chipped away at the 15-point deficit to enter the locker room trailing, 37-30.
- The second half was a back-and-forth affair with Scanlon hitting a layup at 16:53 to grab a 46-36 lead.
- Stephen Brown cut the deficit to four (56-52) with 10:11 remaining, but sophomore Max Mahoney backed down his defender for a layup to key an 8-1 spurt capped by Hankerson's steal and Scanlon's slam dunkat 8:01.
- Hankerson's free throw at 5:26 gave BU a 12-point lead (71-59), and Mathon kept the advantage in double digits three minutes later before Bucknell mounted a rally.
GAME NOTES
- Bucknell entered the game with a KenPm ranking of 92 and RPI ranking of 111.
- The Terriers snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Bison and won for the first time since a 64-61 road victory on Jan. 25, 2014.
- Coming off a 33-point performance against Army, Hankerson reached 20+ points for the fourth time in five games ... He now ranks 18th all-time at BU at 1,176 points.
- Goff tied his career high 3-pointers with four in the first half before hitting a fifth in the second ... He added two clutch free throws to extend his point total to 17 at the 30-second mark to beat his previous high of 14 points set against Western New England last season.
- Scanlon reached double figures for the third straight game and became the third Terrier this season to claim a double-double with a career-high 10 rebounds, topping his previous high of nine tallied at NC State last season.
- The Terriers' 49.1 FG% was the third highest this season allowed by Bucknell, falling behind Arkansas (.535) and Northeastern (.532).
- BU tallied a season-high 13 steals and became just the second opponent to record more than nine against the Bison after Arkansas tallied 10 at home back on Nov. 12 ... The Bison committed a season-high 19 turnovers.
- Zach Thomas led Bucknell with a game-high 25 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and five turnovers, while Nate Sestina had 14 points and eight boards.
- Bucknell shot 43.3 FG%, its third lowest percentage of the season ... The Bison entered the game having shot 49.0 FG% or better in six straight games.
- With Mahoney tallying just eight points in 13 minutes due to foul trouble, Mathon tallied five points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in 24 minutes off the bench.
NEXT UP: LOYOLA MARYLAND
- The Terriers will remain on the road and travel to Baltimore for a Friday, Jan. 5 contest at Loyola Maryland with a 7 p.m. tip-off.
- BU is 8-4 all-time against the Greyhounds with a 6-2 mark in Patriot League play.
- The Greyhounds will look to avenge last year's 64-60 loss at Case Gym in the PL quarterfinals.
