Terriers Fall to Bucknell, 63-58

BOSTON – Taking the floor for the first time of 2018 Tuesday afternoon at The Roof, the Boston University women's basketball team could not overcome the defending Patriot League champions, dropping a 63-58 decision to Bucknell.

Vanessa Edgehill hit a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left that put the Terriers within one at 59-58, but Bucknell would close out the game from the free throw line to hand BU its first loss in conference play. 
 
How it Happened
  • Bucknell took an early 5-2 lead before Nia Irving put BU on the board and Katie Nelson connected from 3-point range to knot the score at seven-all.
  • The Bison responded with an 8-2 run until Nelson and Vanessa Edgehill connected on back-to-back triples to put BU within one possession, 18-15 with 1:10 left in the first.
  • Edgehill stayed hot from deep, drilling another 3-pointer with seven seconds left to put the score at 20-all at the end of the opening quarter.
  • BU and Bucknell exchanged the lead twice to start the second quarter before the Bison pulled ahead by two possessions, but Irving worked the post to put BU within one at 29-27 with 3:41 to go before the half.
  • After a two-minute scoring drought, Corrine Williams drove through the lane to net the final basket of the half, cutting Bucknell's edge to 31-29.
  • Bucknell kicked off the second half with a 6-0 run and furthered its lead to an 11-point advantage, 42-31, midway through the third.
  • Williams converted on an and-1 to put BU back within six, though the Bison went back ahead by double-digits with 2:22 left in the third.
  • Edgehill swung the momentum back to the Terriers, coming up with back-to-back steals that led to two straight baskets, as BU cut Bucknell's edge to one possession at 49-46 with 40 seconds left in the third.
  • Tenisha Pressley kept BU hot from 3-point range, starting the fourth quarter off with a triple from the wing to make it a one-possession game at 53-50 with 8:16 remaining.
  • Following a four-minute scoreless streak, Nelson connected on a mid-range jumper, putting BU within two at 54-52 with 2:26 left.
  • Edgehill connected on a clutch 3-pointer with 15 seconds left, making it a one-point game at 59-58, but the Bison would close out the game from the free throw line.
Game Notes
  • Williams matched a career-high with three blocks and recorded double-digit scoring figures for the fifth time this season.
  • Nelson led the Terriers with seven rebounds and four assists.
  • Edgehill and Nelson hit three 3-pointers apiece, accounting for six of BU's seven 3-pointers in the game.
  • Bucknell has now won eight straight matchups against the Terriers and extended its all-time series command to 8-1.
