Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Terriers Skate Past Merrimack, 5-1

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.. - Sophomore Abby Cook matched her career high with four assists and senior Victoria Bach notched two goals and two assists to help the Boston University women's ice hockey team earn a 5-1 win at Merrimack on Thursday night at Lawler Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Merrimack (9-16-3, 4-12-2 WHEA) took a 1-0 lead at the 12:19 mark of the opening stanza.
  • BU (9-13-6, 5-10-5 WHEA) evened the score with 1:17 to play in the period. Cook kept the puck in at the blue line and sent it into the right corner. Senior Nina Rodgers kicked the puck to Bach, who skated out of the corner, waited out a defenseman at the top of the slot, and uncorked a wrist shot that found the top left corner.
  • The Terriers capitalized on their first power play of the game to start the second period. Cook found senior captain Rebecca Leslie at the left half-wall. Freshman Jesse Compher stationed herself in front of the net and deftly redirected Leslie's shot past Samantha Ridgewell (22 saves) for her sixth strike of the season.
  • Leslie made it 3-1 just 1:51 into the final frame. She skated out of the right corner with the puck, drove to the net and backhanded the puck past Ridgewell for her 17th goal of the season.
  • Freshman Corinne Schroeder (27 saves) robbed Katelyn Rae of a goal midway through the final period to keep BU ahead by two.
  • Sophomore Natasza Tarnowski tallied a shorthanded goal with 7:20 remaining in regulation to push the Terrier lead to 4-1.
  • Bach's 30th goal of the season came with 1:14 to play as she stole the puck from a Warrior defender and quickly scored into the vacant net.

COOK WITH A RECIPE FOR SUCCESS

  • Cook matched a career high with her second four-assist and four-point outing of the season.
  • She first notched four assists in a 6-4 win over Brown on Nov. 28.
  • Cook reached the 20-assist plateau on Thursday and has 21 points on the season.

BACH JOINS THE 30-GOAL CLUB

  • Bach became only the third player in program history to score 30 goals in a season.
  • She joins Jenn Wakefield and Sarah Lefort in that prestigious club.
  • Wakefield scored 32 goals in 2010-11 and Lefort notched 32 goals in 2013-14.
  • Bach is now five goals away from 100 for her career, and her 51 points this season is a new career best.

THE CAPTAIN LEADS BY EXAMPLE
