Men's Soccer Falls to Northeastern, 2-0

BOSTON – Competing in its final non-conference game of the regular season, the Boston University men's soccer team fell to Northeastern, 2-0, on Tuesday night at Nickerson Field.

With their fourth shutout of the season, the Huskies improve to 5-6-1, while Terriers now sit at 3-8-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Terriers earned a corner in the first minute of action but were unable to get off a shot.
  • Sophomore William Bonnelyche recorded a pair of saves during the first 10 minutes but was unable to stop the Huskies in the 36th.
  • Northeastern intercepted a pass near midfield, and Alec Supinski fed a through ball to the left side to set up Dan Munch's low shot at the far post for the 1-0 lead.
  • The Huskies extended the lead two minutes into the second half by heading away a BU corner kick to set up a successful breakaway.
  • Tyler Welch ran across the field with plenty of empty space in front and found Dan Galletti running on the opposite side past a defender.
  • Galletti collected the ball at the top of the box and fired a low shot past a defenseless Bonnelyche at the left post for the 2-0 lead.
  • The Terriers outshot NU in the second half, 6-2, but Chandler Cree preserved the win with two saves, including one on a hard low shot from junior Jasper Verplancke at 63:13.
GAME NOTES
  • Freshman forward John Siracuse led BU with three shots, as the teams finished tied in attempts, 8-8.
  • Freshman defender Chris Espinoza made his first-career start for the Terriers.
  • Bonnelyche had four saves against Cree's two stops.
  • Northeastern recorded a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
  • The Huskies snapped a four-game winless streak against the Terriers with their first win since a 1-0 home victory in 2008.
  • With the loss, BU now owns a 21-8-2 all-time record in the series.
NEXT UP: NAVY
  • The Terriers will fly south to Annapolis, Maryland, to face Navy on Saturday (Oct. 20) with an 8 p.m. start time.
  • BU is 4-1 against the Midshipmen since joining the Patriot League, having won the last four contests by a combined score of 6-2.
