Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Terriers Overmatch Bucknell, 2-0

BOSTON – Hosting Bucknell on Senior Day, the Boston University women's soccer team blanked the Bison, 2-0, in a pivotal Patriot League matchup Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

With the win, BU is now in second place with 20 points in the Patriot League standings. Colgate, who leads the league with 22 points, will host the Terriers in a decisive contest next Saturday to determine the regular season league champion.
 
How It Happened
  • After posting a 7-0 lead in shots through the first 41 minutes, the Terriers finally broke through as Chloee Sagmoe buried a one-timer on an assist from Shannon Keefe.
  • Anna Heilferty spread the field by driving down the left wing before sending a cross to the opposite side of the field.
  • Just before the ball went out of play, Keefe flicked it towards the box, and Sagmoe capped the play by tapping the ball past the keeper.
  • Taylor Kofton nearly made it a two-goal game to start the second half, snapping a header off a corner by Pietra Sweeney, but a Bison defender holding the inside post cleared the threat.
  • Working off a free kick from 25 yards out in the 55th minute, Pietra Sweeney guided a through ball past Bucknell's backline, where Royce Light corralled the feed before slotting it past the keeper.
  • Morgan Messner preserved the shutout with back-to-back finger-tip saves in the 66th minute, and would finish the game with three saves for BU's sixth clean sheet against a Patriot League opponent.
Game Notes
  • BU earned its first win against Bucknell since 2015 and regained its lead in the all-time series at 5-4-0.
  • Messner posted her fifth shutout of the season and has yet to allow a goal in conference play.
  • Light and Sagmoe each netted their second goals of the season, respectively.
  • The Bison did not get a shot off until the 55th minute.
  • During the first half of each of the last three games, the Terriers have allowed a combined two shots.
  • BU will look to claim its third regular season Patriot League championship on Saturday, and its first chance to host the tournament since 2015.
