Sweeney Attains Patriot League All-Academic Status
October 31, 2018 | Women's Soccer, Student-Athlete Academic Support Service
CENTER VALLEY, Pa.— Recognized for her performance on the field and in the classroom, senior Pietra Sweeney of the Boston University women's soccer team has been named to the 11-player Academic All-Patriot League Team, the conference announced on Wednesday.
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Patriot League, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and play in at least 50 percent of this year's contests. Student-athletes are voted onto the team by a representative from each of the member teams. This marks the six straight year that BU has been represented on the Academic All-Patriot League Team.
A senior captain, Sweeney has started all 19 games on BU's backline, aiding the Terriers to eight shutouts, including just seven against Patriot League opponents. BU posted one the toughest defenses in the league, as it limited conference opponents to just 0.22 goals and 6.1 shots per game.
The product of Acton, Massachusetts owns a 3.73 cumulative GPA as a health science major and will graduate from Sargent College this May. Sweeney will continue her studies next fall at BU as she was recently accepted into BU's athletic training graduate program.
