BOSTON - Sophomore
Petra Hall scored two goals, including the game-winner with 6:09 remaining in regulation, to lift the No. 24 Boston University field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Lafayette in a Patriot League semifinal contest on Friday afternoon at New Balance Field.
Hall's heroics lifted BU (11-7) to its sixth straight Patriot League championship game appearance. Lafayette ended its season at 8-11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU earned its first corner of the game in the 20th minute and made the most of the opportunity when Hall blasted a shot past Lafayette goalkeeper Sarah Park. Sophomore Ailsa Connolly and redshirt senior Jordyn Beesmer both assisted on Hall's seventh strike of the season.
- Lafayette answered on a corner of its own in the 25th minute to tie the game, 1-1.
- The Terriers had a golden chance to retake the lead in the 30th minute on a penalty stroke, but senior Ally Hammel's bid was blocked away by Hailey Abbott.
- BU outshot the Leopards, 9-6, in the opening half and put four of those nine shots on goal.
- With less than nine minutes to play in the second half, senior goalkeeper Kathleen Keegan made a crucial kick save to keep the game tied.
- Hall gave BU the lead for good in the 65th minute. Beesmer began the sequence by intercepting a pass at midfield and quickly pushing the ball forward to Hall. After dribbling into the circle, Hall stopped, turned, and fired a shot from the left side that went off a defender's leg and into the back of the net.
