DURHAM, N.H. – After opening its fifth straight road game with back-to-back 3-pointers, the Boston University men's basketball team rolled to an 82-53 wire-to-wire victory at New Hampshire on Wednesday night.
The Terriers (4-4) shot 32-of-61 (.525) from the field, including 12-of-27 (.444) in 3-point territory, while holding the Wildcats (2-5) to 14-of-48 (.292) to snap a three-game losing streak. Junior
Tyler Scanlon had a game-high 15 points, and sophomore
Sukhmail Mathon hauled in a career and game-high nine rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore Javante McCoy and Scanlon set up each other's 3-pointers to open the game, and McCoy later flushed his second trey at 16:03 to give the Terriers a commanding 13-0 lead.
- Freshman Jack Hemphill scored seven points and classmate Jordan Guest added a tip-inn during a 9-2 spurt to help put BU's lead above 20 points for the first time at 9:29 (28-7).
- After Scanlon's second 3-pointer put the Terriers ahead, 37-15, at 4:52, the Wildcats recorded the game's next nine points with Jordan Reed capping the run at 2:53 on a bomb.
- Freshman Jonas Harper though responded with his own 3-pointer to halt the rally and help BU enter the locker room leading, 42-25.
- Chris Lester started the second half with a short jumper for the Wildcats, but UNH would never get any closer.
- Owning a 51-33 lead with 14:56 remaining, redshirt-freshman Alex Vilarino scored on three straight attempts and junior Max Mahoney hit two more buckets for a 10-0 run over a four-minute stretch.
- Hemphill and sophomore Andrew Petcash hit back-to-back 3-pointers before freshman Fletcher Tynen completed a 3-point play at the 43-second mark to give BU its largest lead of the game, 82-50.
GAME NOTES
- With its third straight win against UNH, BU improved to 100-39 all-time in a series dating back to 1908-09 ... The Terriers own their second-most wins against Northeastern (74).
- Hemphill reached double figures for the second time in his career at 10 points after earning a double-double (14 pts., 12 rebs.) against Emerson.
- The Terriers held an opponent below 30 percent shooting for the first time since claiming a 72-58 home win against Colgate (29.5 FG%) on Jan. 11, 2018.
- BU outscored the Wildcats off turnovers, 23-10, and in the paint, 28-14, as UNH posted a 20-6 advantage in made free throws.
- Junior Adam Mikula made his first career appearance on the court for the Terriers and earned a rebound in the final three minutes ... That now leaves 2018 All-PL Rookie honoree and currently-injured Walter Whyte as the only one yet to see action this season.

- The Terriers will conclude their six-game road trip at Elon on Saturday (Dec. 1) with a 2 p.m. tip-off.
