Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Terriers Top No. 13/14 Northeastern, 4-1

BOSTON – Junior Dante Fabbro scored the first two goals of the game to help the Boston University men's ice hockey team claim a 4-1 victory over No. 13/14 Northeastern on Saturday evening at Agganis Arena.

It marked the first career win for head coach Albie O'Connell and allowed the Terriers to take three of four points in the home-and-home series with their crosstown rival following a 5-5 draw at Matthews Arena on Thursday.

Junior Chad Krys had three assists and classmate Patrick Curry notched a shorthanded goal and a helper. Senior Bobo Carpenter added his team-leading fourth goal of the season and junior Jake Oettinger made 37 saves.

BU now stands at 1-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in Hockey East while the Huskies fall to 4-3-1 with a 1-1-1 conference mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • For the first time this season, BU opened the scoring, getting a goal right after its first power play of the night expired.
  • Krys found Curry at the blue line by the left boards and Curry quickly spotted Fabbro streaking down the middle of the ice, where the defenseman received the pass before beating NU goaltender Cayden Primeau to the glove side at 14:02 of the first period.
  • After a scoreless second period, Fabbro scored from the right point just six seconds into the Terriers' fourth and final chance with the man advantage.
  • Off a faceoff win by Carpenter, freshman Joel Farabee knocked the puck to the left point for Krys, who quickly slid it over the right side, where Fabbro drilled a shot from above the circle to the back of the net 53 seconds into the third period.
  • Carpenter picked off a pass in own zone and went the distance to make it 3-0, wristing a shot from the right circle at 13:09 of the final period.
  • A picture-perfect shorthanded rush made the score 4-0, as Curry pushed a loose puck to sophomore Logan Cockerill, who raced down the right side before saucering a pass that Curry impressively gathered before instantly roofing a shot to the far corner with 2:42 left in regulation for his first collegiate shorthanded tally.
  • The Huskies went on to score just under a minute later on that power play to spoil Oettinger's shutout bid and create the 4-1 final.

GAME NOTES

  • Krys tied his career high with his three assists.
  • Oettinger made a season-high 37 saves, including 15 in the final period.
  • BU went 1-for-4 on the power play and killed off five of the Huskies' six chances with the man advantage, including a five-minute major in the third period.
  • Carpenter's goal was his 50th as a Terrier.
  • Primeau made 25 saves for Northeastern, which held a 38-29 shot advantage.
