No. 4/6 Boston College Overpowers Terriers, 18-6, in Season Opener

BOSTON – Opening its 2018 season Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field, the Boston University women's lacrosse team could not overcome the high-octane attack of No. 4/6 Boston College as it dropped an 18-6 decision.

Kailey Conry led the Terriers with two goals and two assists, while Kelly Mathews also found the back of the net twice. Bianca Smith notched a career-high 11 saves over 50 minutes in between the pipes.

How It Happened
  • The Eagles came storming out of the gates, scoring 40 seconds into the game en route to netting eight goals over the first 10 minutes of play.
  • Conry put BU on the board midway through the opening half, dodging through BC's defense before ripping a shot that slid inside the post.
  • Conry kick-started the offense once again in the final minutes of the half, finding Kelly Mathews darting in from the top of the crease, who drilled the back of the net to put the score at 12-2 heading into the break.
  • Avery Donahoe started the second half scoring for BU with a spectacular score, splitting a pair of defenders before bouncing a shot into the back of the net while falling to the ground.
  • Conry made it a 2-1 run by collecting a ground ball at midfield and taking it the distance with 17 minutes left.
  • Mathews followed by additionally netting her second goal of the game, sending one past the Eagle's keeper on a free position chance.
  • Bridget McCarthy netted the final goal of the afternoon for the Terriers with eight minutes left, firing in her first collegiate goal just in front of the crease.
Game Notes
  • Bianca Smith entered the game after the first 10 minutes and also picked up one ground ball.
  • Tonianne Magnelli collected a career-high four ground balls.
  • Kaitlin Belval followed with three ground balls and came up with a team-best four draw controls.
  • Conry extended her point streak to 16 games and has 16 goals and 56 assists during the streak.
