Terriers Hit Their Way to DH Sweep over UMass and Binghamton

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Boosted by a combined 25 hits, the Boston University softball team claimed a 7-4 win over in-state rival UMass and then cruised to a 10-2 run-rule victory against Binghamton to wrap up the St. John's Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Hofstra's Bill Edwards Stadium.

Nine of the Terriers' hits went for extra bases, as senior Brittany Younan tied a school record with three doubles in the first contest and then had a walk-off RBI triple to help BU (10-14) snap a four-game losing streak. Junior Alexa Ponce added her first-career homer, while junior Alex Heinen and senior Emma Wong combined for seven hits, four RBIs and four runs scored.

  • UMass loaded the bases in the fourth on a single and two walks but only managed one run on an RBI ground out.
