BOSTON – After having multiple games impacted by weather this week, the Boston University softball team has worked with four other programs in creating a new round-robin schedule that will allow the Terriers to compete in six contests over the weekend.
The Terriers will first play a pair of games at Hartford on Friday (March 23) with first pitch set for 2 p.m. They will then face Iona and Bryant on Saturday (March 24) at Hartford starting at 1 p.m. The unofficially named "Nor'easter Invitational" will end Sunday (March 25) at Central Connecticut State with the Terriers facing Iona (11 a.m.) again and then the co-host Blue Devils at 3 p.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU will play its first games this weekend in New England after posting a 2-2 record last weekend at the St. John's Invitational with wins against UMass (7-4) and Binghamton (10-2) and losses to both St. John's (4-3) and Hofstra (7-2).
- The Terriers are hitting .271 as a team and are holding opponents to .290 with the teams combining for 57 doubles.
- Junior Alex Heinen leads BU at .346 with 18 RBIs and seven doubles ... Both she and classmate Alexa Ponce (.255) went deep last weekend for the Terriers' first homers of the season.
- Junior Madi Killebrew (.338) owns a team-high nine doubles, while senior Emma Wong (.325) has 14 runs scored and nine RBIs.
- BU ranks 11th nationally in triples at 0.42 per game with seniors Brittany Younan (.247) and Jilee Schanda (.275) combining for eight total.
- The Terriers also rank 50th in double plays per game (0.42) and 83rd in earned run average (2.77).
- Freshman Ali Dubois (5-4, 2.70 ERA) has made a team-high 11 starts and 19 appearances while tallying 33 strikeouts in 62.1 innings ... Both freshman Cali Dolfi (4-6, 2.47 ERA) and sophomore Kali Magane (0-1, 4.75 ERA) have made five starts apiece ... Sophomore Lizzie Annerino (1-3, 2.37 ERA) is holding opponents to .253 batting average.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
2x @ HARTFORD (Friday, 2/4 p.m.)
- Former rivals of the Terriers in the America East, the Hawks are 5-5 this season after posting a 4-46 record last year ... They own wins over Lafayette (11-3), Fairleigh Dickinson (6-5), Saint Peter's (8-5) and St. Bonaventure (4-3, 9-8) with identical 6-5 losses to Charleston Southern and Manhattan.
- Hartford is hitting .324 as a team while holding opponents to .326.
- One of seven Hawks hitting above .300, Nicolette Barranger leads UH at .452 with 14 hits and six RBIs, while Amber Mianti (.417) has a team-high seven RBIs with a homer.
- Both Isabella Gerone (3-2, 4.36 ERA) and Melissa Pereira (0-1, 7.98 ERA) have made four starts apiece in the circle.
- The Terriers are 50-13 all-time against the Hawks dating back to 1990 with Hartford winning the last matchup in 2013 at home, 5-3, on a walk-off homer.
2x IONA (Saturday @ UH, 1 p.m. | Sunday @ CCSU, 11 a.m.)
- The Gaels are 7-9 this season after posting a 27-24 mark last year ... They own key wins over Virginia (10-6), Columbia (5-0) and College of Charleston (8-7) and are looking to rebound from a doubleheader loss to Maine (5-1, 1-0) back on March 13.
- Iona is hitting .238 and is holding opponents to .273 while trailing in stolen base attempts, 26-6.
- Kimmie Chiapparelli leads Iona at .340, while Marisa Gergel owns nine RBIs and nine runs scored ... Ciarra DiGuilio (.178) owns a team-high 10 RBIs off three homers and three doubles.
- Alana Evans (3-2, 2.02 ERA) has made eight appearances with three starts and three complete-game performances ... She has posted 41 strikeouts in 34.2 innings, while Marnie Skinner (3-3, 3.66 ERA) owns 25 strikeouts in 36.1 innings.
- The Terriers are 4-0 all-time against Iona in a series dating back to 1995 and will be facing the Gaels for the first time since a thrilling 4-3 13-inning victory at the Cal-Berkeley NCAA Regional in 2012.
BRYANT (Saturday @ UH, 3 p.m.)
- The Bulldogs are 4-16 after going 12-36 last season with a pair of strong wins over South Florida (8-4, 4-1) and victories against Fordham (5-3) and Louisiana-Monroe (6-4) ... They've lost their last 11 contests, including a 5-4 decision to Seattle and 4-3 defeat to Weber State.
- Bryant is hitting .193 as a team and is holding opponents to .340 with opponents owning a 36-15 advantage in doubles and 31-4 lead in stolen bases.
- Morgan Powell leads Bryant at .311 with seven runs scored, while Kaleigh Goulart (.250) owns a team-high eight RBIs off 12 hits.
- Gabrielle Ermish (1-6, 6.15 ERA) and Sarah McKeveny (0-6, 8.69 ERA) have combined for 15 starts ... Logan Paul (3-1, 4.81 ERA) leads the team with three victories in a team-high 11 appearances.
- BU leads the all-time series dating, 7-4, dating back to 1992 ... Bryant won last year's meeting at BU, 4-2, with all four runs occurring in the fifth inning.
@ CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE (Sunday, 3 p.m.)
- The Blue Devils are 7-12 this season after going 15-24 last year ... They've won their last three against Quinnipiac (11-1), Seton Hall (6-1), and Yale (4-3) after dropping hard-fought decisions to Michigan State (5-4), Boston College (1-0) and Dartmouth (1-0) ... They also lost to PL member Lehigh, 5-1, in Florida.
- CCSU is hitting .261 as a team while holding opponents to .290 and has only been outscored by a combined two runs.
- Emily Cronin leads the Blue Devils at .333 with Brittany Camara close behind at .318 ... Sydney Bolan (.298) owns a team-high three homers, while Lex Debrosse (.277) has two homers and 11 RBIs.
- Emily Sargent (4-5, 3.25 ERA) has pitched seven complete games in 10 starts, while Peyton Silverman (1-4, 2.65 ERA) has gone the distance five times in all five starts.
- The Terriers are 13-3 all-time in a series dating back to 1994 ... Last year at CCSU, BU avenged a 3-1 loss with a 5-1 victory to split the doubleheader.
