WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Extending their win streak to six games, the Boston University softball team claimed a pair of run-rule victories over Iona (8-0) and Bryant (10-1) on Saturday afternoon at the University of Hartford.
The Terriers (14-14) posted a .481 on-base percentage for the doubleheader sweep with senior
Emma Wong, senior
Kaitlin Sahlinger and junior
Madi Killebrew combining for 10 RBIs. Junior
Alex Heinen reached home plate four times and added two RBIs off three hits and a walk. Freshman
Ali Dubois (7-4) was impressive in the circle as well, posting 10 strikeouts in a combined nine innings of work against just four hits allowed.
GAME 1: BU 8, Iona 0 (5 inn.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Brittany Younan and Heinen started the bottom of the first inning with a pair of singles and eventually scored on at-bats from Killebrew and Wong.
- BU put the game away in the second with five runs off five hits, including a two-RBI triple by Killebrew.
- Both senior Jilee Schanda and Wong added RBI singles as well.
- Heinen added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to plate Sahlinger from third.
- The Gaels avoided the no-hitter with a two-out single in the fourth, as Dubois tallied five strikeouts in the shutout win.
GAME 2: BU 10, Bryant 1 (5 inn.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers jumped out again in the first inning on an RBI double by Schanda and junior Alexa Ponce's bases-loaded walk.
- Sahlinger led off the second with an infield single and eventually scored on Heinen's single to center.
- The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard against Dubois in the top of the fourth on a lead-off double and RBI single through the right side.
- Kaleigh Goulart followed up with a stolen base but was stranded at second after Dubois recorded back-to-back strikeouts.
- With the help of four walks, BU put the game away in the bottom half with seven runs off two hits, including a bases-clearing triple by Sahlinger.
- Sophomore Lizzie Annerino got three straight outs in the fifth to seal the run-rule victory.
DOUBLEHEADER NOTES
- BU has outscored the last six opponents by a combined score of 53-18 for its longest win streak against non-conference competition since 2012 when BU won six straight by a combined score of 31-8.
- Coincidentally, that 2012 squad was the last one to face Iona, earning a 4-3 13-inning victory in the NCAA regionals.
- BU now owns a 5-0 all-time record against the Gaels and improved to 8-4 against the Bulldogs.
- The Terriers finished with a 16-4 advantage in hits and 9-1 lead in walks with nine players reaching home plate at least once.
- Killebrew earned her first career triple against Iona before Sahlinger became the sixth Terrier this season to claim a triple against Bryant.
- Dubois pitched her second and BU's third shutout of the season against the Gaels.

- BU will conclude its stay in Connecticut by visiting CCSU on Sunday (March 25) for a rematch against Iona at 11 a.m. and then a 3 p.m. matchup against the Blue Devils.
