NORFOLK, Va. - Concluding a two-match road trip to Virginia, the Boston University women's tennis team fell to North Texas, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at Old Dominion's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
With their third straight victory, the Mean Green improve to 7-9, while the Terriers fall to 6-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- North Texas won the first two doubles matches with identical scores of 6-1 to grab the lead for good.
- The Mean Green won five of the six singles matches, including four in straight sets.
- Freshman Lily Burchell prevented the sweep by coasting to a 6-3, 6-2 win at line 4.
- Freshman Katya Martens rallied to force a third set in the No. 5 slot but ultimately came up short, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
- Junior Remi Ramos won 10 games in a hard-fought 7-6(5), 6-4 loss at line 2, while junior Sophia Kryloff won nine during a 7-6(5), 6-3 loss at line 6.
- North Texas was led by No. 58 nationally-ranked Maria Kononova, who defeated senior Iryna Kostirko, 6-2, 6-2.
NEXT UP: RHODE ISLAND
- The Terriers will return to Boston for their final home match of the season against Rhode Island on Friday (March 30).
- BU will recognize Kostirko prior to the 3 p.m. start time.
