RIVERSIDE, Calif. – In a back-and-forth matchup, the Boston University men's tennis team came just short at UC Riverside, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Terriers (7-6) won two of three doubles matches to jump out to a 1-0 lead, but the Highlanders (6-10) claimed four of the six singles points, including a crucial point by virtue of a retirement, to escape with the victory. Only two singles matches finished in straight sets.

MATCH NOTES
- Freshman David Bogatin and sophomore J.P. Avila teamed together for a 6-4 win at line 2, while UCR posted a 6-4 win in the top slot.
- Freshmen Ethan Kolsky and Owen Lu sealed the doubles point by breaking the Highlanders for a 7-5 victory at line 3.
- Lu followed up in singles action with a 6-2, 7-6 win in the No. 2 slot, while Bogatin earned a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win at line 4.
- UCR posted wins at line 1 (6-1, 6-1) and at line 3 (6-3, 2-6, 6-3) to pull within one of the Terriers.
- Freshman Pete Siozios rallied from a set down to force a third set but had to retire due to injury with the score tied, 6-3, 3-6, 5-5.
- The Highlanders then sealed the team win by holding off sophomore Marc Sable's rally at line 6 with a 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 victory.
- BU dropped to 2-1 in one-point decisions, while the Highlanders moved to 2-2 following Tuesday's 4-3 win against Youngstown State.
