Terriers Claim Weekend Series at Army West Point with 7-0 Win

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Boosted by another stellar pitching performance from freshman Ali Dubois, the Boston University softball team claimed the weekend series at Army West Point with a 7-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.

A day after tossing her first-career no-hitter against the Black Knights (12-19, 3-3 PL), Dubois (12-5) allowed just two hits for her fourth shutout of the season. The offense was patient at the plate, finishing one walk shy of tying the school record with 10 total while collecting eight hits to help the Terriers improve to 18-16 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After getting hit by a pitch to lead off the second inning, junior Alexa Ponce took second on senior Kaitlin Sahlinger's sacrifice bunt and then scored the go-ahead run on senior Jilee Schanda's RBI single.
  • The Terriers loaded the bases against Courtney Springman (7-12) on junior Emily Morrow's walk and junior Analisa Ruff's hit-by-pitch.
  • Senior Brittany Younan then drew another walk for the RBI and 2-0 lead.
  • Senior Emma Wong added a third run in the sixth by earning a walk, stealing second and scoring on Ponce's RBI single.
  • BU then put the game away in the seventh with four runs off three hits and two Army errors.
  • The Black Knights avoided a second no-hitter for the weekend with a two-out single in the fourth and added a lead-off single in the sixth.
  • Army had a runner advance to second with the help of two BU errors, but Morrow made a leaping catch at second on a liner to help preserve the shutout.
GAME NOTES
  • Dubois threw 102 pitches and finished with six strikeouts against two hits and a walk for the Terriers' fifth shutout of the season.
  • Eight Terriers each had a hit with senior Brittany Younan tallying a team-high two RBIs.
  • Wong drew a personal-best three walks to extend her streak of reaching base to 20 games.
  • A transfer from Chapman University, Ruff collected her first hit as a Terrier.
  • The Terriers improved to 10-9 all-time against Army and have now won six of the last seven meetings.
NEXT UP: Harvard
