Terriers to Visit Holy Cross in Turnpike Trophy Weekend Series

BOSTON – Riding a four-game win streak, the Boston University softball team will head to in-state Patriot League rival Holy Cross on Friday afternoon to open a three-game weekend series. After meeting up at 4:30 p.m., the teams will meet again on Saturday with the doubleheader slated to begin at 12 p.m.

The winner of the series will claim a point in the Turnpike Trophy all-sports competition featuring the two schools. BU currently leads the Crusaders, 12-4, after capturing four points at the PL Swimming & Diving and Indoor Track & Field Championships.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU is currently second in the PL at 4-2 with Bucknell owning a 7-2 record ... The Terriers shut out Army in two wins and dropped a 3-2 decision on the road ... Last weekend, they rebounded from an 8-5 loss to Lehigh with two wins by a combined score of 8-1.
  • The Terriers are hitting .284 and are holding opponents to .257 with a 45-36 advantage in doubles ... Both sides are an identical 29-of-42 in stolen base attempts.
  • Senior Emma Wong leads BU at .358 avg. and 30 runs with juniors Madi Killebrew (.350 avg.) and Alex Heinen (.346 avg.) close behind ... During the four-game win streak, Killebrew is hitting .583 with eight RBIs.
  • Senior Brittany Younan (.281 avg.) owns eight triples and 29 runs scored, while classmate Jilee Schanda (.276 avg.) has seven doubles and 19 runs.
  • Junior Alexa Ponce (.247 avg.) hit her team-leading third homer on Wednesday and is one of seven Terriers with double-digit RBIs at 14 total.
  • During the four-game win streak, freshman Ali DuBois (15-6, 2.21 ERA) has tallied 17 strikeouts in 18.1 innings of work while holding opponents to .188 hitting.
  • Sophomore Kali Magane (2-1, 3.58 ERA) pitched all six-innings in a 10-1 win over CCSU on Wednesday ... Freshman Cali Dolfi (4-7, 2.52 ERA) and sophomore Lizzie Annerino (1-3, 3.14 ERA) also appeared in the doubleheader against the Blue Devils.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
  • The Crusaders are 2-4 in the Patriot League play ... They rebounded from a 13-4 loss at Lafayette with two wins by a combined score of 20-3 ... They were then swept at Bucknell by a combined score of 28-3.
  • HC is 0-2 at home following last week's 4-1 loss to Rhode Island and Thursday's 5-3 (9 inn.) defeat to Hartford.
  • The Crusaders are batting .242 while holding opponents to .294 ... Opponents own a 17-4 advantage in homers and 80-5 lead in stolen bases.
  • Jackie Brewster leads HC at .341 avg. with 10 doubles and 12 RBIs, while Mandy McCarthy (.287 avg.) owns a team-high three homers and 14 RBIs.
  • Katy Watson (6-7, 3.82 ERA) pitched both shutouts against Lafayette and CCSU and has gone the distance five times nine starts ... Alexandra Held (2-8, 4.22 ERA) and Olivia Sloane (0-4, 6.84 ERA) have combined for 17 starts.
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Terriers lead the all-time series, 34-8, dating back to 1989 and have won the last six meetings.
  • Last year at home, BU swept the series by a combined score of 21-4 ... In 2016, the Terriers won all three games but two were decided by one run apiece, including Lauren Hynes' ('16) no-hit 1-0 victory.
  • In 2015, HC won the weekend series with a 6-3 and 8-4 victory ... The Terriers avoided the sweep with a 9-1 run-rule win.
