BOSTON – Behind a record-breaking 13-point performance by
Kailey Conry, the Boston University women's lacrosse team throttled crosstown rival Harvard, 20-16, Wednesday night at Nickerson Field.
Inside Conry's Historic Night
- Conry finished the night with a career-high five goals and matched a career-high with eight assists. Danielle Etrasco '13 held the previous mark with 12 points, coming on eight goals and four assists, against Ohio State on March 16, 2013.
- Her 13 points are the most by any player in a single game in the NCAA this season.
- Additionally, her eight assists put her in a three-way tie for second-most in a single game this season.
- The sophomore fell one point shy of tying the Patriot League single-game points record. Jill Altshuler set the mark with 14 against West Chester on May 7, 1996.
How It Happened
- Harvard struck first one minute into the game, though Kelly Mathews responded at the 23-minute mark to knot the score.
- The crosstown rivals exchanged goals, as Emily Vervlied and Kailey Conry put the score at 3-3 with 17:30 left in the half.
- Avery Donahoe gave the Terriers their first lead of the night, dodging towards the center of the crease before firing a wrap-around shot into the back of the net.
- The scoring continued to go back-and-forth as the Crimson tied the contest twice to sandwich a free position goal by Kelly Mathews.
- Conry put the Terriers back ahead and Ryann Gaffney intercepted a clear attempt and fired into an open net to give BU its first two-goal lead, 7-5, with 10:18 remaining in the first.
- Following a response from the Crimson, BU stroked another 2-0 run led by Ava Barry and Conry.
- Harvard had the final goal of the half, though the Terriers held the upper hand at 9-7.
- Kaitlin Belval opened the second half with back-to-back free position goals before darting in a feed from Conry to give BU a 12-7 advantage with 26:34 left.
- The Crimson spurted a 2-0 run until Lexi Lewis and Ava Barry snapped back-to-back scores to put BU back on top by five.
- Belval and Conry each picked up their fourth scores of the night, extending the lead to 16-10.
- Conry played a hand in the next three points to set the single-game point mark, while Donahoe netted BU's 20th goal of the night to put the game out of reach.
Game Notes
- BU has won eight of the last nine matchups against the Crimson at Nickerson Field.
- Laible stopped 13 shots in net for the second straight game, matching a career-high
- Belval matched a career-high with four goals and led the team with seven draw controls
- Tonianne Magnelli also dominated on the draw, winning six decisions.
- The Terriers went 5-for-6 on free position shots.
