Hempstead, N.Y. – Holding a one-goal lead in the final minute, the Boston University women's soccer team was shocked by Hofstra, as the Pride tied the game up with 20 seconds left to force overtime.
From there, Hofstra would deliver the golden goal just over a minute into the second frame of extra time to escape with a 2-1 decision over the Terriers Thursday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
How It Happened
- Hofstra pressured early with shots in the 7th and 8th minute, which would prove to be its only two shots of the opening half.
- BU answered with three straight shots in the 12th minute, though McKenna Doyle's was the lone strike to land on frame.
- Shannon Keefe nearly broke the stalemate in the 42nd minute, angling a drive from the corner of the 18-yard box that missed by mere inches to the left of the post.
- Amanda Fay made an incredible save on a point-blank breakaway chance by the Pride in the 48th minute, but was shaken up on the play and left the game.
- Royce Light delivered her first career goal as a Terrier in the 65th minute, heading in a free kick from McKenna Kennedy.
- Hofstra set the score at one-all on a header of its own off a corner kick with just 20 seconds left in regulation.
- The Pride outshot the Terriers 6-1 in the frame of overtime.
- Taking its 10th corner kick of the game just over a minute into the second overtime, Hofstra headed in the game-winner to hand the Terriers their third straight defeat.
