EASTON, Pa. - The No. 24 Boston University field hockey team remained undefeated in Patriot League play with a 7-4 road victory over Lafayette on Saturday afternoon at Rapport Field.
Sophomore Petra Hall scored twice and was one of six Terriers to notch a goal, helping BU improve to 7-3 overall with a 3-0 conference mark. Lafayette moves to 2-8 on the year and 1-1 in PL play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers overcame an early Lafayette goal by reeling off six straight goals to take a 6-1 lead in the 51st minute.
- The Leopards made it a 6-4 game with three straight goals before BU added one more tally to close out the victory.
- Lafayette earned the first two corners of the contest and scored on the latter with Caroline Turnbull knocking in a rebound at the 11:57 mark to open the scoring.
- Sophomore Miya Dension got the equalizer for BU, collecting a long rebound and finding the boards at 25:36 for her second goal of the season.
- BU took the lead on a goal from Kara Enoch at the 32:19 mark, as the senior caught the Lafayette goalkeeper out of position and scored her third tally of the year.
- The Terriers continued the pressure and ended up taking a 3-1 lead into the half thanks to a penalty stroke goal from senior Ally Hammel.
- Sophomore Ailsa Connolly recorded two shots on the second of back-to-back corners and the last shot went off the body of a Lafayette defender, resulting in the stroke.
- Hall scored the first two goals of the second half to push the BU lead to 5-1.
- The sophomore striker converted from the middle of the circle in the 38th minute before tipping home a pass from senior Maika Akroyd in the 50th minute.
- Freshman Haley Lowell completed the six-goal run for the visitors by knocking in a rebound at 50:12 for her first collegiate goal.
- Lafayette got within two at 6-4 by registering three goals in a span of just over 13 minutes.
- Turnbull's second tally of the afternoon was sandwiched by goals from Sam Di Maio and Theresa Delahanty.
- Molly Rottinghaus became the second BU freshman on the day to record her first tally as a Terrier, tipping in a deflected ball with 3:44 to play.
GAME NOTES
- BU recorded 14 shots with 13 of them on goal.
- The Leopards recorded 10 shots and held a 5-4 edge in corners.
- Senior Kathleen Keegan made two saves for the Terriers before junior Livy Golini played the final 3:44 and recorded one stop.
- Sarah Park made five saves in goal for the Leopards.
- Hall now leads the team in both points (14) and goals (6) this season.
- This was the first time in 17 years that BU won a game in which it allowed four goals (5-4 overtime win at Delaware on Sept. 28, 2001).
