Boston College Stymies Women's Soccer, 1-0

BOSTON – Facing off against Boston College on a rain-soaked Nickerson Field, the Boston University women's soccer team could not overcome an early score by the Eagles as it was edged, 1-0, Thursday night.

How It Happened
  • Making her return in net following a three-game absence, Amanda Fay passed an early test as Boston College roped the first shot on goal five minutes into the game.
  • The Eagles ramped up the pressure as the first half wore on, and were able to break through in the 31st minute off a corner kick.
  • Mijke Roelfsema one-timed a volley from 12 yards out that arched just under the crossbar to put the crosstown rivals ahead, 1-0.
  • Regrouping at the half, BU nearly tied the game up in the 47th minute on a corner kick of its own, as Taylor Kofton flicked a header that landed on frame.
  • Fay made a spectacular save in the 68th minute, making a full-extension diving save to her left to keep it a one-goal game.
  • The Eagles had several quality looks in the second half, finishing with a 17-3 advantage in shots, though Roelfsema's score in the first half proved to be the game-winner.
Game Notes
  • BC held a 7-0 advantage in shots and a 5-0 lead in corner kicks in the first half.
  • With the win, BC took its fourth straight matchup against the Terriers and improved to 18-5-1 in the all-time series.
  • Fay finished with six saves to set a new career high.
  • Taylor Kofton accounted for three of BU's four shots on the night.
