EVANSTON, Ill. - Sophomore Petra Hall scored the game-winning goal with three minutes left in regulation to lift the No. 24 Boston University field hockey team to a thrilling 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Miami in a neutral-site game at Lakeside Field.
BU, which got a game-tying goal from senior Allie Doggett, moves to 3-2 on the year while the RedHawks slip to 3-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miami quickly earned the first corner of the game and subsequently scored off the first shot of the day.
- A blast from the top of the circle by Mariona Heras found the top of the boards with assists going to Marie-Claire Gorner and Estel Roig just 2:24 into the contest
- The Terrier defense did not allow a shot on goal the rest of the way, allowing the offense to put together a second-half comeback.
- While the RedHawks scored quickly the opening half, the Terriers did the same in the latter half.
- Off a corner from the left side, senior Maika Akroyd slotted the ball towards the far post, where it went off a Miami defender right to Doggett, who punched it in for her second goal of the year at the 37:52 mark.
- BU earned five more corners during the reminder of the contest but was not able to take advantage of them.
- Ten of BU's 13 shots on the day came after halftime and their final shot of the day resulted in the decisive tally.
- Positioned above the left post, Hall lunged to get her stick on an entry ball from Doggett and then, while on the ground, poked a rebound past Miami netminder Maddie Passarella with three minutes left in regulation.
