ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Behind outscoring Navy 21-4 in third quarter and a season-high 23 points from
Katie Nelson, the Boston University women's basketball team got back in the win column with a 49-35 victory over the Mids Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall.
Nelson sparked BU in the third by connecting on all four of her shots from the floor to swing the momentum in its favor. The sophomore posted her most efficient outing of the season, registering a 9-of-15 shooting mark, which included a 7-for-9 clip in the second half, while adding in four assists over 39 minutes.
How it Happened
- BU started cold form the floor, missing its first eight shots before Nelson swished a jumper to make it an 8-5 game at the end of the first.
- Ashley Sieper gave the Terriers their first lead two minutes into the second, fighting for an offensive rebound and sent in an easy putback layup to swing the score to 9-8.
- In a defensive slugfest, the Mids eked out a 5-0 run to close the quarter and take a three-point lead into the break.
- The Terriers found their shot as the third quarter got underway, as Payton Hauck hit a jumper from the top of the key, and Nelson followed with a corner 3-pointer to reclaim the upper hand, 18-13.
- BU kept the offensive attack going by hitting on three of its next four possessions, extending its run to 12-0 while holding the Mids scoreless for over six minutes.
- Nelson capped the third with four straight points as BU pushed its grip to 34-20.
- The sophomore stayed hot by extending her second-half shooting mark to 7-for-7 with a mid-range jumper midway through the fourth to put the score at 41-29.
- BU held the Mids to shoot just 23.2 percent (13-56) for the game as it snapped a four-game skid to Navy.
Game Notes
- The Terriers won their first-ever game at Alumni Hall and sunk Navy for the first time since 2016.
- The 35 points were the fewest the Terriers have allowed in a game since topping Loyola Maryland, 40-35, March 4, 2014.
- BU posted its best single-season shooting percentage in a quarter with an 8-for-9 mark in the third.
- Riley Childs continues to post an impressive rookie campaign as she grabbed a team-best nine rebounds for a new season high.
- BU shot 63.6 percent (14-for-22) from the floor in the second half.
