Terriers Set for Friday Trip to UConn

The Boston University women's ice hockey team will travel to UConn on Friday for a Hockey East tilt against the Huskies. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m.

ROAD WARRIORS

  • This is the second game in a five-game road stretch for the Terriers.
  • BU will trek to Maine for a Sunday matinée before heading to Penn State for a two-game series on Oct. 25 and 26.
  • The Terriers won't play two consecutive home games until Nov. 12, 15 and 19 when they host Yale, Boston College and Harvard.

HISTORY WITH THE HUSKIES

  • BU is 26-11-7 all-time against the Huskies, including a 12-5-4 record at UConn.
  • The Terriers went 2-0-1 against UConn last season and are 3-0-3 against the Huskies over the last two campaigns.
  • Dating back to a victory over the Huskies in the 2010 Hockey East title game, BU is 23-2-4 against UConn.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES

  • UConn split its first league games of the year last weekend, falling at home to New Hampshire and winning at Holy Cross.
  • Both games ended 2-0.
  • Junior Natalie Snodgrass leads the Huskies with four assists and five points while classmate Morgan Wabick has notched a team-best three goals.
  • Ten different Huskies have notched at least two points.
  • Senior Morgan Fisher and sophomore Samantha Carpentier-Yelle have each started two games and posted one shutout.
  • Fisher boasts a 1.00 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage while Carpentier-Yelle has stopped all 32 shots she has faced.

BEST OF BU AGAINST UCONN

WEEKEND RECAP

  • The Terriers tied Merrimack, 2-2, on Friday night in their home opener before suffering a 4-2 setback at New Hampshire the next day.
  • Freshman Julia Nearis notched her first collegiate goal on Friday while junior Natasza Tarnowski tied the game, 2-2, in the second period.
  • Sophomore Mackenna Parker and junior Kristina Schuler assisted on Nearis' marker while redshirt senior Sammy Davis and sophomore Kaleigh Donnelly both had helpers on Tarnowski's tally.
  • Junior Corinne Schroeder made 21 saves in the tie.
  • On Saturday at UNH, senior Abby Cook gave BU a 1-0 lead but the Wildcats tallied three straight goals to pull away.
  • Davis also scored and assisted on Cook's power-play strike.
  • Junior Nara Elia recorded two assists while sophomore Courtney Correia also notched an assist.
  • Sophomore Kate Stuart made a career-high 43 saves.

FIFTY FOR SAMMY

  • Redshirt senior Sammy Davis notched her 50th career goal on Oct. 6
  • She notched two goals in the victory, including a power-play strike.
  • She has recorded a point in all three games this season, scoring three goals and adding two assists.
  • Both of Davis' assists have been the primary helper.
  • Davis ranks ninth in the conference with five points and her average of 1.67 points per game is fifth-best in the league this season.

ELECTRIC ELIA

  • Junior Nara Elia assisted on both Terrier goals at UNH on Saturday.
  • It was the fourth two-assist game of her career and the eighth time she has recorded at least two points.
  • Those two helpers were the first two points of the year for Elia, who tallied career highs in goals (9), assists (9) and points (18) last season.

NIFTY NEARIS

  • Freshman Julia Nearis notched her first collegiate goal on Oct. 11 against Merrimack.
  • She is the first Terrier rookie to light the lamp this season and the second BU freshman to record a point.
  • Haylee Blinkhorn secured her first collegiate point with an assist in the season opener.
  • All five Terrier freshmen have skated in all three games this season.

SPREADING THE WEALTH

  • Four different Terriers have been responsible for the six BU goals so far this season.
  • Redshirt senior Sammy Davis has tallied three goals while freshman Julia Nearis, senior Abby Cook and senior Natasza Tarnowski have also lit the lamp.
  • Nine Terriers in total have recorded an assist and 11 BU skaters have registered a point.

COOK CASHES IN

  • Senior Abby Cook notched her first goal of the season on Saturday at UNH.
  • She now has two points in three games this season.
  • This is a continuation of her strong play in the offensive zone from last season, when she posted career highs in goals (8) and assists (20).
  • In 114 career games, the two-time Hockey East and New England All-Star has notched 15 goals and added 56 assists for 71 points.

TOP LINE TERRIFIC SATURDAY

  • The top line of redshirt senior Sammy Davis, sophomore Courtney Correia and junior Nara Elia had a strong game on Saturday at New Hampshire.
  • Davis (1g, 1a) and Elia (2a) both registered two points while Correia assisted on Davis' goal.
  • The trio combined for five of the Terriers' six points on Saturday.

STUART STRONG AT NEW HAMPSHIRE

  • Sophomore Kate Stuart made a career-high 43 saves in her first start of the season on Saturday at UNH.
  • She made 21 of those stops in a frantic first period to help keep the score at 1-1 after 20 minutes.
  • That was the second time Stuart has made over 40 saves against the Wildcats; she stopped 41 shots in a 3-3 tie with UNH on Feb. 16.
  • Stuart's previous high for saves came on Nov. 30, 2018, when she turned aside 42 Boston College shots in a 3-2 win.

OFF TO FAST STARTS

  • BU has scored the opening goal in all three tilts this season.
  • All three of those opening salvos have come during the first period, which represents half of the Terriers' total goals this season.
  • Only three other teams score a higher percentage of their goals in the opening 20 minutes.
