Terriers Fall to American on Senior Day, 2-0

BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team dropped a 2-0 contest to visiting American on Saturday afternoon at New Balance Field.

The Terriers held Senior Day festivities for Kiley Gallagher and Livy Golini prior to the game.

The Eagles scored once in each half and kept BU off the board to remain undefeated in Patriot League play. BU falls to 4-9 overall with a 1-3 conference mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After weathering an early BU corner, the Eagles opened the scoring at the 6:22 mark when Noor Coenen curled around the right side of the circle before snapping a shot past Golini.
  • Early in the second quarter, Golini kept the Terriers in the game by making five saves in under a minute.
  • BU came out of the half with some energy and put three shots on goal, including two off a corner, but could not get on the board.
  • The Eagles used a restart from the midfield to score their second goal as Charllene Boshoff found Hannah Moser at the top of the circle before she created space on the left side and sent a reverse-stick shot to the boards at 36:10.
  • The Terriers got a late corner but American netminder Fiona Minter made her seventh and final save of the afternoon to secure the shutout.
GAME NOTES
  • BU outshot American, 14-10, including an 8-2 margin after hafltime.
  • The visitors held a 5-4 advantage in corners.
  • Golini played the first three quarters and made six saves, her most as a Terrier, before Caroline Kelly stopped the only shot she faced in the final quarter.
UP NEXT
  • BU continues its home weekend on Sunday with a contest against No. 8 Princeton.
  • Game time is set for 1 p.m.
