WEST POINT, N.Y. – Guided by
Anna Heilferty's first goal of the season, the Boston University women's soccer team powered past Army West Point, 1-0, Wednesday night at Clinton Field.
The Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year put the finishing touches on a 30-yard cross by
Jenna Oldham from the right wing, slotting it right in front of the net in the 47th minute that proved to be the lone score of the match.
How It Happened
- Chloee Sagmoe registered the first shot on goal in the 29th minute, one-timing a strike from the top of the 18-yard box that rolled in the hand's of Army's keeper.
- Heilferty had the best chance of the opening frame, corralling a serve from the top right of the 18-yard box before working her way towards midfield, where she bended a shot that drilled off the crossbar in the 41st minute.
- Just over a minute into the second half, Heilferty would cash in on her next scoring opportunity as Sophia Woodland found Jenna Oldham driving down the right wing.
- Oldham sent a beautiful cross that landed right at the edge on the far side of the six-yard box, where Heilferty got a touch on the ball to guide it into the back of the net, giving BU the lead just 85 seconds into the second half.
- Army nearly tied the game up in the final minute, beating the backline to get a shot off from 15 yards out, but missed wide right.
Game Notes
- BU improved to 6-0 following a regular season Patriot League loss.
- Heilferty's goal marked the 12th of her career.
- Amanda Fay earned her third straight shutout, finishing with two saves over 90 minutes.
