BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team closed out its home weekend with a 1-0 to visiting Penn on Sunday afternoon at New Balance Field.
In the first-ever meeting between the two schools, the Quakers broke a scoreless deadlock in the 53rd minute.
BU falls to 3-7 while Penn improves to 3-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Scoring chances were at a premium for the majority of the contest.
- The best opportunity of the opening half came for Penn in the fourth minute but BU goalkeeper Livy Golini made an impressive diving shot on Maddy Fagan's bid.
- BU earned the game's first corner in the 21st minute but freshman Jodie Conolly's shot was blocked near the right post.
- The Quakers' only two corners of the contest came back-to-back in the second minute of the second half but the Terrier corner defense didn't allow a shot on either try.
- Penn's goal came on a play along the right side as Meghan Ward's entry ball found Madison Jiranek for a redirect in front of the cage at the 52:11 mark.
- The Terriers pulled Golini in favor of an extra attacker with just over four minutes left in regulation but were unable to force overtime.Â
