Terriers Persevere at Albany, 60-58

ALBANY, N.Y. – Taking on Albany Wednesday night at SEFCU Arena, the Boston University women's basketball team completed its three-game America East road sweep, eking out a 60-58 win in a back-and-forth thriller.

With BU up by nine at the half, the Great Danes stormed back to take a seven-point advantage with 7:06 left in the fourth quarter. The Terriers chipped away at the deficit and attacked the paint, scoring all five of its field goals from within the key in the fourth.

Nia Irving put in five straight points to tie it up, 58-58, with 1:07 remaining. On each of Albany's final two offensive possessions, BU forced turnovers, while Irving and Annabelle Larnard each connected from the free throw line to push out the two-point margin of victory.

How It Happened
  • Both squads exchanged baskets to start before Larnard sparked the offense with a baseline drive through contact,
  • Katie Nelson hit from deep to cap a 7-0 Terrier run, making it an 11-5 game five minutes in.
  • Albany responded with a 7-2 streak to knot the score until Maggie Pina connected from 3-point range to give BU a 15-13 edge at the end of the first.
  • The second quarter sustained the back-and-forth trend before BU worked the paint, as Nia Irving put in six of the next eight points.
  • Larnard and Riley Childs drilled back-to-back triples as BU ended the second quarter with a 9-2 run to hold the scoreboard in its favor, 37-28.
  • The Great Danes stormed back to open the third, using a 13-4 streak to tie the game up at 41-all.
  • Childs got BU back on the scoreboard with a putback layup before Sydney Johnson followed with a steal and fast break layup, giving the Terriers a 45-41 cushion.
  • Albany came within one point after a pair of free throws, though Irving took a hit and converted from the block with two seconds left, giving the Terriers a 47-44 lead heading into the fourth.
  • Once again, the Great Danes caught fire to open a quarter, using a 10-0 run to pull ahead, 54-47.
  • Irving broke up the run before Nelson drove for back-to-back layups, getting the Terriers within one, 54-53, with 4:42 to play.
  • Irving connected from the post twice to tie it up twice it up in the final three minutes before knocking down a free throw to give BU a one-point lead with 18 seconds left.
