BOSTON – Down by as many as 19 points in the middle of the second half to Patriot League preseason favorite Lehigh, the Boston University men's basketball team missed a go-ahead field goal attempt from behind the arc with under 10 seconds to play and ultimately came up short, 84-79, on Saturday evening at Case Gym.
The Terriers (11-16, 4-10 PL) finished with a 12-10 advantage in made 3-pointers and outscored the Mountain Hawks (17-8, 10-4) off turnovers, 20-12, but were unable to overcome a 46.7 percent free throw shooting performance. Lehigh finished the game at 52.9 FG% while outscoring BU at the charity stripe, 20-7.

Tyler Scanlon was one of five Terriers in double figures with a game-high 19 points, six assists and five steals, while classmate
Max Mahoney posted 17 points and eight rebounds. Pat Andree led Lehigh with 16 rebounds and nine points, as Kyle Leufroy and Lance Tejada combined for 35 points.
DOWN THE STRETCH
- After Leufory used a 3-pointer to extend Lehigh's lead to 74-56 at 5:36, Scanlon flushed one of his own to ignite a 17-4 run capped by freshman Jonas Harper's third bomb at 1:08.
- Jordan Cohen hit both free throws on the next possession, but after feeding Mahoney for a layup, redshirt-freshman Alex Vilarino forced a turnover and hit two attempts at the line to cut the deficit to 80-77 with 44 seconds left.
- BU pulled even closer, 81-79, after Joe Foley went 1-of-2 at the line and Mahoney scored on a putback at 25 seconds.
- The Terriers quickly fouled Lance Tejada, who missed both free throw attempts, but couldn't take advantage, as sophomore Andrew Petcash was just off on a go-ahead 3-point attempt.
- Lehigh sealed the victory with Karnik hitting both of his free throws and the defense forcing BU's 10th turnover.
THE SETUP
- Making his first career start, sophomore Andrew Petcash buried three 3-pointers and added a layup to give BU a 16-14 lead with 13:28 remaining in the first half.
- Leufroy and Tejada combined for three treys during a 13-0 run to grab the lead for good, 27-16, at 9:04.
- Harper and freshman Garrett Pascoe drained back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the deficit to 27-22, but Jordan Cohen helped key a 12-2 run with two of his own bombs to push the advantage to 39-24 at 2:57.
- After Scanlon hit a layup with 6.5 seconds left, but Cohen flushed his third trey to grab a 45-32 halftime lead.
- Mahoney and sophomore Sukhmail Mathon opened the second half with back-to-back layups, but the Terriers couldn't get any closer until the final 1:40.
- Owning a 51-42 advantage, Tejada hit a pair of 3-pointers to spark a 12-3 run capped by Leufroy's layup at 9:56.
- Lehigh hit two free throws at 8:59 (65-46) and 8:13 (67-48) to push the lead to a game-high 19 points.
GAME NOTES
- Following the contest, Scanlon is now 41 points away from the 1,000, while Mahoney is 67 points away.
- Scanlon tied a career high with five steals while shooting 4-of-7 in 3-point territory and dishing out six assists for the third time in six contests.
- BU featured five men in double figures for the first time since suffering a heart-breaking 91-88 double-overtime loss to Lehigh in the 2017 Patriot League quarterfinals.
- The Terriers tied a season high with 12 3-pointers but dropped to 5-2 this season when hitting more attempts from behind the arc than opponents.
- Avenging last year's home PL quarterfinal loss, Lehigh swept the Terriers in the regular season for the first time since BU joined the PL in the summer of 2013 and cut the Terriers' lead in the all-time series to 8-7.
- With the loss, BU saw its streak of finishing .500 or better in conference play snapped at 18 seasons, which was tied with VCU for the ninth longest in the country.

- BU has a quick turnaround and will visit the Crusaders on Monday (Feb. 18) with the CBS Sports Network broadcast set for 7 p.m.
