ALLSTON, Mass. – Seeking a second win against the Ivy League, the Boston University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Harvard on Saturday afternoon.
The Crimson (7-4) won two of the three doubles matches for the first point and then captured four singles points in straight sets to avenge last year's 4-3 loss to the Terriers (4-3). Freshman
Shelly Yaloz and sophomore
Emily Kim led BU with singles wins.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Harvard posted a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles and then topped the Terriers, 6-3, in the No. 1 slot for a 1-0 advantage.
- The Crimson dropped a combined eight games in singles matches 4-6 before No. 111-nationally ranked Erica Oosterhout held off senior Remi Ramos, 6-2, 6-4, in the top contest.
- A five-star recruit and ranked as high as No. 33 nationally by TennisRecruiting.net, Yaloz jumped out to an early lead against blue-chipper and No. 11 recruit Rachel Lim before holding off a late charge for the 6-1, 6-7(4), 10-6 victory at line 2.
- Kim also prevailed in a super tiebreaker at line 3 by rallying for the 4-6, 7-6(4), 10-6 win against Natasha Gonzalez.
NEXT UP: BROWN
- Now 1-1 against the Ivy League following the loss to Harvard and earlier win against Dartmouth, the Terriers will next face Brown on Friday (March 1) at 5 p.m. with the contest taking place at the Winchester Indoor Tennis Club.
- The Bears claimed a 6-1 win last season in Providence, Rhode Island.
