BOSTON – Behind 41 points from the class of 2019, the Boston University women's basketball team swept Navy for the first time ever, sinks the Mids with a 66-55 Senior Day victory Saturday afternoon at Case Gym.
Payton Hauck led all scorers with 22 point on 9-of-15 shooting, while
Lauren Spearman poured in 11 points, and
Naiyah Thompson contributed eight points to go with seven rebounds.
Nia Irving recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
How it Happened
- Spearman started lights-out from 3-point range, swishing back-to-back triples within the first three minutes.
- Hauck kept the senior momentum rolling by netting the next eight points, capped by drilling a corner 3-pointer to tie it up at 14-all.
- Spearman stayed scorching hot from beyond-the-arc as she kicked off the second quarter with another triple to knot the score at 19-19 before Irving followed with a post move to give BU its first lead of the game.
- Riley Childs delivered two straight jumpers to further the run to 9-2, pushing the advantage to 25-21.
- Navy worked its way back into the game, eventually knotting the score for the fourth time of the half at 27-all with 2:41 left until the break.
- Thompson capped the second quarter with four straight points to send BU into the locker room with a 31-27 edge.
- Hauck and Spearman picked up where they left off to start the second half, netting back-to-back baskets to give BU a six-point lead.
- The Mids chipped away once again, this time tying the game up twice from the free throw line, with the latter make draw making the score 40-all.
- Hauck banked in five straight points as part of a nine-point third quarter on 4-of-5 shooting, pushing the Terriers to a holds the scoreboard at 47-43 heading into the fourth.
- After back-and-forth action to start the fourth, Irving converted on a momentum-shifting and-one to reclaim the six-point advantage, 56-50, with 5:49 left to play.
- Katie Nelson and Childs each netted a pair of midrange jump shots, guiding an 8-2 run as the Terriers put the game out of reach.

- With the win, BU has now won two straight against the Mids for the first time ever.
