Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Gray Records 100th Point in 14-9 Win over Bryant

BOSTON - Sophomore Chris Gray notched seven points, including the 100th of his career, and senior James Burr and freshman Timmy Ley added hat tricks to push the Boston University men's lacrosse team to its third straight win in a 14-9 decision over visiting Bryant on Tuesday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

Gray is the second fastest to 100 points in Patriot League history, doing so in just his 22nd career game. The sensational sophomore tallied two goals and five assists on Tuesday and now has 45 goals and 60 assists for 105 points. He needs just 10 more helpers to match Cal Dearth's program record for career assists.

Bryant (2-2) got on the board first but the Terriers quickly gained the lead and never relinquished it, improving to 4-1 on the year in the process.

Burr and Ley each added a helper for four-point efforts. Senior Brendan Homire scored twice and had an assist while freshman Jake Cates (2g) and junior Chase Levesque (1g, 1a) chipped in two points apiece. Junior Reece Eddy tallied his first goal as a Terrier while sophomores Sean Christman and Michael Doxie each added an assist.

Christman followed up his 19-of-23 performance last Tuesday with another terrific effort at the faceoff X. He went 8-for-8 in the second quarter en route to a 15-of-25 showing with 10 ground balls. He was one of 18 Terriers to collect 43 ground balls on Tuesday.

Levesque had one of his best games as a Terrier on Tuesday. In addition to his career-high two points, Levesque caused five turnovers and gathered four ground balls. BU caused 17 of the Bulldogs' 27 turnovers, with freshman Will Carson (2 GB) and senior Quintin Germain (1 GB) each forcing two giveaways apiece.

Junior Joe McSorley made four of his 10 saves in the fourth quarter. He also recovered three ground balls in another strong effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bulldogs opened the scoring just 1:26 into the contest, but Burr answered just over a minute later to tie the game.
  • Bryant made it 2-1 at 10:48 of the opening quarter, but Ley and Cates both scored to give BU a 3-2 lead with 7:12 to go in the frame.
  • Neither team broke through until the second quarter, when Burr notched his second goal of the game at 13:46 to make it 4-2.
  • Levesque made it 5-2 with his second goal of the year at 11:26.
  • Then, on the ensuing faceoff, Christman won it forward and raced into the box before dishing to Ley for the freshman's second strike of the game and the Terriers' second goal in six seconds.
  • Bryant cut the deficit to 6-3, but Gray and Cates both scored in a 41-second span to lift BU to an 8-3 advantage.
  • The Bulldogs cut the deficit to 8-5 at halftime, but Homire opened the scoring in the third quarter when he caught the ball at midfield, dodged through two defenders inside the box and ripped home his fourth goal of the season.
  • Bryant answered just over two minutes later to cut the Terrier lead to three again, but BU rattled off three straight goals at the end of the quarter and took a 12-7 lead into the final 15 minutes.
  • Burr and Eddy both scored to give the Terriers their largest lead of the contest at 14-7 with 8:24 to play.
