Terriers Open Conference Play with 6-1 Win over Lehigh

STAMFORD, Conn. – Highlighted by five straight-set singles victories, the Boston University women's tennis team opened Patriot League play with a 6-1 win over Lehigh at the Chelsea Piers Athletic Club. The Terriers were able to face the Mountain Hawks at the first-class facility in Connecticut thanks to BU men's tennis alum Bill Mountford (CAS'89), who serves as Senior Director of Racquets.

BU (6-7, 1-0 PL) won the first two doubles matches and then rolled through singles action to claim the win against the Mountain Hawks (4-8, 0-1 PL).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore Emily Kim and freshman Shelly Yaloz started doubles with a dominating 6-0 win at line 2 before senior Sabrina Faybyshev and sophomore Katya Martens clinched the first point with a 6-2 victory in the No. 3 slot.
  • Sophomore Lily Burchell dropped the fewest games in singles at line 4 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
  • Faybyshev rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 5 slot, while Kim posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at line 3.
  • Senior Remi Ramos was victorious in the top match, 6-2, 6-4, and Yaloz added the fifth point at line 2 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
  • Trying to complete the sweep, Martens rallied from a set down to force a super tiebreaker but came up just short, 6-4, 3-6, 10-5.
NEXT UP: YALE
  • BU will visit the Bulldogs on Saturday (March 23) at 12 p.m.
  • The Terriers dropped a 5-2 decision last season in New Haven, Connecticut, with both Burchell and senior Sophia Kryloff claiming singles wins.
