WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Playing indoors for the second consecutive day, the top-seeded Boston University women's tennis team claimed a 4-0 sweep against No. 4 Bucknell in the Patriot League semifinals on Saturday morning at the Central PA Tennis Center.
The Terriers (14-8) won the top two doubles matches for the first point and claimed three singles points in straight sets to eliminate the Bison (14-7) and reach their fifth conference tournament final in six years.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman Shelly Yaloz and sophomore Emily Kim claimed a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles before senior Remi Ramos and sophomore Lily Burchell clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory in the top slot.
- Yaloz earned the first singles point with a dominating 6-1, 6-2 win in the top match.
- Sophomore Katya Martens duplicated Yaloz's efforts by dropping just three games at line 6.
- Kim ended the contest with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 3 slot.
- Both Burchell (#4) and senior Sabrina Faybyshev (#5) won their respective first set and were ahead in the second when their matches were halted.
NEXT UP: ARMY WEST POINT (PL FINAL)
- The Terriers will next compete for the program's 18th automatic NCAA berth on Sunday at 12 p.m. against No. 3-seed and defending PL champion Army West Point after the Black Knights eliminated No. 2 Navy, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon.
- BU and Army will face off at the Central PA Tennis Center.
- The Terriers defeated the Black Knights, 7-0, at MIT back on April 14 but four of the singles matches required a third set.
- Army eliminated BU, 4-3, last season in the semifinals at West Point en route to the PL title.
- The teams last met in a PL final in 2017 at Lehigh with the Terriers triumphing, 4-1.
