BOSTON - The Boston University Department of Athletics is celebrating another record-breaking year in the classroom as the student-athlete body set a new benchmark by posting a 3.24 grade-point average in 2018-19.
Thanks to the department's top two semester GPAs on record, capped by a 3.25 in Spring 2019, the 3.24 overall GPA is an all-time high for BU student-athletes and marks the fourth year in a row that the record has been broken.
"We are incredibly proud of the hard work put forth by our student-athletes both in the classroom and in their respective sports," said BU Director of Athletics
Drew Marrochello. "Our stretch of record-breaking academic success is a testament to their dedication to thrive at a world-class institution while competing at the Division I level."
BU's 24 varsity programs combined to earn above a 3.20 GPA in each semester for the second time in as many years. Additionally, 22 teams earned a 3.0 GPA or higher for the second consecutive year with Women's Tennis leading the way at 3.49.
A record 295 student-athletes received 2018-19 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll recognition, which is given to those who post a 3.20 or higher GPA during their primary semester of competition. In the fall, 22 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA while 28 achieved the feat in the spring.
