Pereira Lifts Women's Soccer Past Northeastern, 1-0, in 2OT

BOSTON – Needing overtime for the third time this season, Geo Pereira delivered the golden goal in the 102nd minute to lift the Boston University women's soccer team past Northeastern, 1-0, Thursday night at Nickerson Field.
Pereira took a feed from 30 yards out and worked a 360 spin to maneuverer past a Husky defender. Creating open space, the freshman lined the game-winning goal into the upper 90 to net her first career score in dramatic fashion.

How It Happened
- BU threatened in the 8th minute when Chloee Sagmoe fired off a shot that deflected off a Northeastern defender, while Julianna Stureman's follow-up veered wide of the frame.
- Northeastern had its own chances in the 9th minute, firing back-to-back one-timers that hammered off the post.
- The Terrier defense was tested early on, clearing five Husky corner kicks over the first 14 minutes of play.
- Morgan Messner stopped a quality strike in the 32nd minute, keeping the game scoreless entering the break.
- BU came out on the attack to open up the second half, nearly getting on the board in the 52nd minute as Anna Heilferty drove a shot from the corner of the 18-yard box that drifted wide right.
- Marli Rajacich and Lauren Adelman flicked back-to-back shots inside the box in the 83rd minute, though Husky defenders thwarted the chances.
- Shannon Keefe started the first overtime by just missing sneaking one inside the left post on a breakaway chance.
- Pereira's shot in the 102nd minute landed right under the crossbar to seal BU's first win of the season.
- Thursday marked the third overtime game and the second straight double overtime home game for the Terriers.
- After notching nine shots in the first half, BU held the Huskies to just fourth shots over the final 45 minutes of regulation.
- Messner earned her second shutout of the season, additionally picking up her second double overtime clean sheet, and finished with six saves.
- BU started three freshmen in Ashley Buck, Marli Rajacich and Julianna Stureman.
- BU will remain at home as it hosts Rhode Island on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m.
