PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After allowing an early goal, the Boston University men's soccer team rallied for a 1-1 draw off the foot of senior
Matt McDonnell at Brown on Wednesday night.
The contest marked the first tie in 10 years between the Terriers (0-5-1) and the Bears (1-2-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Brown earned a corner kick in the second minute, BU cleared the ball to set up a counter attack and header attempt by senior Satchel Cortet that went just wide.
- McDonnell nearly gave BU the lead in the 16th minute with a one timer off a service pass into the box that also was wide.
- Brown got on the scoreboard first at 21:45 when Jackson Goebel played the ball near the corner flag to Nicolas Perez, who then drove past a BU defender and centered it for a one timer by Alex Mina against the defenseless junior goalkeeper Michael Stone.
- The Bears went to the half with a 1-0 advantage after Stone stopped a hard grounder in the 38th minute and the Terriers sent a 30-yard free kick over the crossbar.
- Junior William Bonnelyche replaced Stone at goalkeeper to start the second half.
- Freshman Jorge Lopez Lacu fired a shot wide in the 50th minute to put the Bears on notice.
- After freshman Marc Roura won the ball during a midfield scramble and made a quick pass up the field, McDonnell pushed it further toward the box and made a quick burst around his defender to set up an 18-yard shot past a dive James Swomley at 59:08.
- The teams combined for three corners in the final 10 minutes of regulation with Bonnelyche earning a save to keep the game tied, 1-1.
- BU dominated possession in the first OT and attempted all three shots.
- Both teams had one attempt apiece in the second OT and frantically moved the ball up the field against each other during the final minutes before the buzzer sounded.

- McDonnell recorded his 15th-career goal and found the back of the net for the second consecutive game.
- Roura earned his first assist of the season.
- Both Bonnelyche and Stone had two saves apiece.
