January 2, 2020 | Men's Ice Hockey
This is the latter of two exhibition games over the semester break for the Terriers, who posted a 3-0 win in the first one on Sunday against Concordia at Walter Brown Arena
The Terriers are 7-1-1 all-time against the U.S. Under-18 Team with the lone loss coming during the 2015-16 season. In last season's meeting, Shane Bowers scored his second goal of the night with 24.9 seconds left in overtime to lift BU to a 5-4 victory at Agganis Arena on Oct. 19, 2018.
Four of this year's Terrier freshmen played for the U18 squad last season, which brings the total of U.S. National Team Development Program alumni to have played at BU to 42. In all, eight current Terriers are NTDP alumni.
Pat Aufiero was the first-ever Terrier from the NTDP in 1998 and there were 15 players on NHL training camp rosters this year who played at both the NTDP and BU (Kieffer Bellows, Adam Clendening, Jack Eichel, Joel Farabee, Jordan Greenway, Matt Grzelcyk, Clayton Keller, Chad Krys, Charlie McAvoy, Matt Nieto, Jake Oettinger, Kevin Shattenkirk, Brady Tkachuk, David Warsofsky, Colin Wilson).
The NTDP pipeline will continue later this year as three members of this year's U.S. National Under-18 Team have signed National Letters of Intent (NLIs) to play for BU. Goaltender Drew Commesso and forwards Dylan Peterson and Luke Tuch are scheduled to come to campus this summer with their classmates to begin classes before joining the 2020-21 roster.
The Under-18 team has played 12 NCAA teams thus far this season and has earned wins against Holy Cross and Canisius. The program competes in the USHL and is currently second in the Eastern Conference standings with 42 points and a record of 21-8-0.
Thomas Bordeleau leads the team in points with 28 and is one of three players with 13 goals.Commesso has a 10-5-0 record in goal with a .918 save percentage and 2.17 goals-against average.
The U18s dropped a 3-2 contest to Wisconsin on Wednesday and came up short against top-ranked North Dakota last Saturday by a score of 3-1.
