TRUMBULL, Conn. – After claiming a hard-fought doubles point, the Boston University men's tennis team won three singles matches to edge Sacred Heart, 4-3, on Saturday evening at the Tennis Club of Trumbull.
The Terriers (1-0) matched last year's total of one-point victories, as the Pioneers (1-5) dropped to 1-2 in one-point contests following a win over UConn and loss to Holy Cross.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Marc Sable and junior Ethan Kolsky posted a 6-3 victory at line 3 to start things off in doubles.
- Both teams earned a 7-5 decision in the top two slots with sophomore Max Hartenstein and freshman Kirill Belov prevailing at line 2 to give BU the early 1-0 advantage.
- Both Belov (#6) and junior David Bogatin (#4) put on dominating performances in singles, as they dropped just three games apiece for identical 6-0, 6-3 victories.
- Sacred Heart earned one straight-sets victory at line 2 and captured two more points in three-set victories.
- Junior Owen Lu came up just short in a hard-fought 1-6, 6-4, 7-6(5) loss in the top slot, while Hartenstein rallied from a set down to force a third before being broken for a 6-3, 6-7(8), 6-3 defeat.
- Sable held off his opponent at line 5 to clinch the team victory at line 5 with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win.

- The Terriers will remain in Connecticut and visit the Bulldogs on Sunday (Jan. 26) at 1 p.m.
- Yale won last year's matchup at home, 6-1.
