CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The defending Patriot League champion Boston University men's basketball team will open a 16-game schedule on Jan. 2, 2021 at Holy Cross, the Patriot League announced Monday morning.
 
To reduce travel and overnight stays, all 10 PL members will be divided into three regional mini-conferences with teams playing four games against each regional opponent. Additional games will be played outside of the mini-conferences to complete the schedule.
 
Schools will play against the same opponent on consecutive days, primarily Saturdays and Sundays, with a limited number of exceptions. The Terriers are set to play Army West Point and Colgate four times apiece and Holy Cross six times. BU will also play two games out of group against Lafayette.
 
Last season, BU under head coach Joe Jones claimed the program's first true road conference title with a 64-61 win at top-seed Colgate. The Terriers (21-13, 12-6 PL) posted their best home record (12-3) since 2010-11 (12-2) and earned the program's first win against the SEC at South Carolina, 78-70. In one key example of their improvement from a year prior, they lowered their defensive field goal percentage from 47.1 FG% to 43.7 FG% while shooting 46.0 FG%. BU also dropped the number of turnovers per game from 12.9 to 11.3, 36th best mark in the country.
 
In total, the Terriers return four starters, including 2020 All-Conference honorees Walter Whyte (13.0 ppg, 7.4 rpg) and Javante McCoy (12.2 ppg, 3.5 apg). Both junior Jonas Harper (All-Defensive) and sophomore Ethan Brittain-Watts (All-Rookie) received conference recognition as well.
 
While spectators will not be permitted at home games, fans will be able to watch all Patriot League games on ESPN+ and listen to an audio stream on TSRN. Times will be announced at a later date.
 
The PL men's basketball tournament will include eight teams. The quarterfinal round is scheduled for Saturday, March 6, and the men's semifinal round will be played on Wednesday, March 10. The title game is scheduled for Sunday, March 14. Tournament seeding policies are in the process of being developed and will be announced at a later date.
