BOSTON – In a game of runs, the Boston University women's basketball team outlasted Lafayette, 47-40, Wednesday night at Case Gym for its seventh straight win.
Riley Childs posted her second double-double in five games, leading all players with 10 rebounds to go with 11 points.
Katie Nelson led the Terriers with 13 points and matched Childs with a trio of assists.
How It Happened
- Sydney Johnson converted on a three-point play to open the game, while Nia Irving worked the post, giving the Terriers a 5-0 edge.
- Lafayette answered with its own 5-0 streak, but Nelson and Maggie Pina closed out the first with a trio of 3-pointers put the Terriers on top, 18-13.
- Childs heated up, putting in seven of BU's 11 points in the second quarter to push the advantage to 29-18.
- Once again, the Leopards made a run, trimming the scoreboard to 29-25 at the break.
- Lafayette made it a one-point game to start the third, but Nelson connected from beyond-the-arc to spark an 8-0 run, capped by a Pina triple to make it a 39-30 game.
- BU worked the paint the begin the fourth, as Childs and Maren Durant pooled five straight points to put the Terriers in front, 45-37, midway through the frame.
- The Terriers held Lafayette to just one field goal in the fourth, as the defense limited them to miss its final 13 shots over 9:44 of play.
Game Notes
- Durant swatted a game-high three blocks and grabbed nine rebounds.
- Nelson is three assists away from reaching 300 career assists.
