WASHINGTON, D.C. – Looking for its first win at Bender Arena since 1981, the Boston University women's basketball team overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter with five minutes to go, but couldn't get past the Eagles as it fell, 55-54, Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles opened the final stanza with a 13-0 run, but the Terriers fought all the way back as
Maggie Pina tied the game up with 4.8 seconds left on a corner 3-pointer. However, American's Jade Edwards was fouled with 0.3 ticks left and made one-of-two attempts from the line to end BU's seven-game win streak.
How It Happened
- BU wasted no time getting on the board as Maren Durant lifted a hook shot and Sydney Johnson followed with a 3-pointer.
- American responded with an 8-0 run to swing the scoreboard until Pina and Tenisha Pressley put BU back in front, 9-8, with four minutes left in the first.
- Four different Terriers contributed to an 8-2 run to close the quarter to maintain the lead, 13-10.
- Durant continued to scorch the Eagles in the paint, putting in five of BU's first eight points of the second frame to make it a 21-13 game.

- BU used a 6-2 streak within the key to pull ahead, 32-24, midway through the third.
- Once again, American used a 9-2 run to come within a point, but Nia Irving swished two from the line, and Johnson drilled another triple to give the Terriers a 39-36 edge at the end of the quarter.
- The Eagles netted the first 13 points of the fourth to go up by double-digits with 5:06 left on the clock.
- Childs put in two straight layups before finding Durant for an easy two, making it a 51-45 game with just over three minutes to go.
- Irving fought through contact to make it a two-point game with 1:07 remaining, while Johnson made it a one-point contest, 52-51, with 11.2 seconds left after a drive through the lane.
