HARTFORD, Conn. – UConn scored in the final minute of regulation and the first minute of overtime to stun the Boston University men's ice hockey team, 4-3, on Friday evening at XL Center.

BU erased a 2-0 deficit with a three-goal second period and held a 3-2 lead for over 21 minutes before the Huskies' late dramatics.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After both teams were stymied on great scoring chances in the early minutes, UConn got on the board first on a tally by Carter Turnbull at 11:12 of the first.
- The home team doubled its lead when Kale Howarth stuffed in a power-play rebound just over six minutes later.
- The Terriers owned the second period, turning a 13-5 shot advantage in the stanza into three goals and a lead.
- McCarthy got BU on the board with a snapper from above the right circle at 4:26 of the second.
- The equalizer came from DeBoer at 11:19 as the sophomore punched in a pass at the top of the crease following a pass from freshman Robert Mastrosimone, who came in from the left side.
- After winning a battle for the puck behind the net, senior Patrick Curry backhanded a pass up the slot to Crotty, who potted his third goal of the season to give the visitors a 3-2 lead with 2:25 remaining in the middle period.
- BU continued to limit UConn's scoring chances in the third but fell victim to late tally after the Huskies pulled goaltender Tomas Vomacka in favor of an extra attacker.
- Benjamin Freeman sent the game to overtime when he capitalized on a rebound with 41 seconds left in the third.
- The Terriers created a scoring chance in the closing seconds of regulation but could not convert.
- Freeman found Alexander Payusov all alone at the goalmouth just 19 seconds into the extra session to lead the Huskies to the victory.
GAME NOTES
- UConn held a 30-26 shot advantage on the evening and got a 23-save performance from Vomacka.
- Graduate student Sam Tucker made 25 saves for the Terriers.
- Nine Terriers recorded a point apiece.
- BU committed just two penalties and UConn was only whistled for one.
- The Terriers came up empty on their only power-play chance while the Huskies went 1-for-2.
- This was BU's third straight overtime loss at XL Center.
- BU now stands in fifth place in the Hockey East standings with 23 points, just one point behind a three-way tie for second.Â
