Bucknell Staves Off Women's Basketball, 55-53

LEWISBURG, Pa. –  Looking to knock off the Patriot League front runner once again, the Boston University women's basketball team came up short as it dropped a 55-53 decision against Bucknell Saturday afternoon at Sojka Pavilion.

How It Happened

  • Riley Childs sunk a 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the first, giving BU a shot of energy as the score held at 23-13.
  • Katie Nelson continued the momentum, willing her way to the basket with back-to-back drives to kick off the second quarter.
  • Sydney Johnson put in five straight points, while Maggie Pina hit two from the free throw line to give the Terriers their first lead, 24-23, with 5:05 remaining until the break.
  • BU's defense was stellar in the second quarter, limiting the Bison to shoot just 7.7 percent (1-of-13) from the floor as it maintained a one-point advantage, 26-25, heading into the locker room.
  • Bucknell turned the tide to start the second half, using an 11-2 run to go back up by double figures, 38-28, with 3:43 left in the frame.
  • Pina breathed life into the Terriers, netting back-to-back triples, and Nelson sealed an 8-0 run with two makes from the charity stripe to cut the gap to 38-36 at the end of the third.
  • Nia Irving slotted an inbounds pass before Pina connected again from downtown, putting BU on top, 41-40, with 7:07 remaining.
  • Bucknell utilized a pair of 5-0 runs to go up by five, 52-47, with two minutes to go.
