WEST POINT, N.Y. – Shooting over 50 percent from the field while committing just eight turnovers, the Boston University men's basketball team claimed an 80-66 victory at Army West Point on Wednesday.
With their fourth straight win, the Terriers improve to 14-10 and remain one game behind Patriot League leader Colgate at 8-3. The Black Knights (11-11, 6-5 PL) shot 47.5 percent from the field but were outscored in both 3-pointers (10-3) and free throws (14-7), as their six-game win streak came to an end.

Max Mahoney posted 13 points alongside seven rebounds and three steals to become the seventh Terrier in program history to eclipse both 1,400 points and 600 rebounds. Junior
Javante McCoy tallied a team-high 20 points by shooting a perfect 8-for-8 at the charity stripe, while sophomore
Walter Whyte earned 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. Reigning PL Player of the Week Tommy Funk recorded six assists and matched teammate Matt Wilson (10 rebs.) at 24 points to lead Army's efforts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- For the first time in four games, the Terriers faced a deficit, as Wilson opened the game with a layup for the Black Knights.
- Funk followed Lonnie Grayson's 3-pointer with a layup for the 7-2 advantage at 15:08, and Grayson extended the lead to 11-6 on a fastbreak bucket at 13:22.
- After Funk hit two free throws to grab 13-7 lead, Mahoney fed sophomore Fletcher Tynen for a layup to spark an 18-4 run capped by McCoy's 3-pointer at 3:14.
- Tynen added another trey at 1:14 for BU's first double-digit lead of the game (31-21).
- The Terriers finished the half 4-for-5 from behind the arc with McCoy flushing one more on the final possession to enter the locker room ahead, 34-23.
- Army shot over 60 percent in the second half, but BU was able to keep pace and never saw its lead cut below nine points.
- Freshman Ethan Brittain-Watts fed Mahoney for a layup and bonus free throw to grab the Terriers' largest lead of the game, 47-31, with 15:56 remaining.
- After Funk cut BU's lead to nine (49-40) one last time at 12:17 on a successful drive to the hoop, sophomore Jack Hemphill nailed a 3-pointer on the next possession.
- The Terriers went 12-of-17 at the line in the final 20 minutes to seal the sweep over the Black Knights.
GAME NOTES
- Mahoney (1,401 pts., 611 rebs.) had a slam dunk on an in-bounds pass with two seconds left on the shot clock at 2:22 to become the first Terrier to reach 1,400+ pts. and 600+ rebs. since John Holland (2,212 pts., 725 rebs.) accomplished the feat in 2011.
- With his third 20+ point performance of the season, McCoy is now 59 points away from becoming the 39th Terrier to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
- The Terriers outscored Army off the bench, 27-3, with junior Andrew Petcash contributing three treys.
- Brittain-Watts matched his season high with four assists alongside five points.
- BU improved to 19-11 all-time against Army with its second sweep in three years and third overall since joining the Patriot League in the summer of 2013.
- The Terriers eclipsed last year's 7-11 performance in the Patriot League and still have seven games remaining.
- BU won the battle at the boards, 32-31, and outscored Army off turnovers, 14-6.
NEXT UP: HOLY CROSS
- The Terriers will open a key two-game homestand on Saturday (Feb. 8) at 1 p.m. against the Crusaders.
- After seeing its 16-point lead cut to two early in the second half back on Jan. 25 at the Hart Center, BU scored nine straight points to pull away for the 79-64 victory.
- Whyte posted 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Mahoney had 18 points, six rebounds and six assists.
- BU has won seven of the last eight meetings, including last year's 68-54 home victory.
