BOSTON – The Boston University women's ice hockey team forced overtime on a power-play goal with 3:21 left in regulation and settled for a 4-4 draw with visiting Merrimack on Friday evening at Walter Brown Arena.

The Warriors took the extra Hockey East point in what ended up being a seven-round shootout but the Terriers remain undefeated on the year at 3-0-2 (3-0-2 Hockey East). Merrimack moves to 0-5-1 (0-1-1 HE).

Junior Julia Nearis provided the game-tying goal while senior Courtney Correia scored a pair of goals and junior Haylee Blinkhorn notched her first goal as a Terrier.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Down by two on three separate occasions, the Terriers finally drew even by scoring twice in the final 7:18 to secure a point.
Merrimack scored the lone goal of the opening period and then extended its lead to 2-0 at 5:29 of the second.
BU got on the board with 4:43 left in the middle frame when Blinkhorn scored her first collegiate goal on assists from seniors Kaleigh Donnelly and Jesse DeVito.
Blinkhorn collected the puck at the right side of the blue line and skated in before dragging the puck to elude a defender and shooting the puck past Merrimack netminder Emma Gorski.
The Warriors regained a two-goal edge at 16:47 of the second on a one-timer from the right circle by Dominika Laskova.
Correia's first goal of the night gave the Terriers some momentum heading into the second intermission as she curled around the top of the right circle before finding the back of the net off a slot shot with just 14 seconds left in the second.
Merrimack earned a 4-on-3 power-play opportunity in the third and took full advantage of its, getting a goal from Teghan Inglis at 12:28 to take a 4-2 lead.
It quickly became a one-goal game again as Correia responded 14 seconds later on an impressive effort through the left circle.
Down 4-3, the Terriers worked hard for an equalizer and drew a hooking penalty with 4:48 left in regulation.
On the power play, a scramble in front of the net resulted in the puck falling to a wide-open Nearis and the junior sent it in at 16:39.
BU was forced to kill a penalty during the 3-on-3 overtime period and nearly had a winner in the closing moments of the extra session.
The ensuing shootout went seven rounds with the Warriors taking it by a score of 2-1.
Three Terriers had a chance to win the shootout but came up empty each time.

GAME NOTES

Senior Kate Stuart made 23 saves in goal for the Terriers while Gorski had 18 stops for the visitors.
Merrimack held a 27-22 shot advantage.
BU was 1-for-4 on the power play and the Warriors were 1-for-3.
Nearis' goal extended her point streak to nine games.

The Terriers have a week-long break in their schedule before returning to action next Friday (Oct. 22) with a game at Rensselaer.
Game time at Houston Field House is set for 6 p.m.
